About Hudson Soft

Hudson Soft started on May 18, 1973, as CQ Hudson, an amateur radio shop in Sapporo run by brothers Yuji and Hiroshi Kudo, who named it after the Hudson-type steam locomotive that passed their childhood home. It turned to computer games in 1978, put Bomberman on the Famicom in 1983 and helped NEC build the PC Engine, sold in North America as the TurboGrafx-16. The company bee, Hachisuke, came from the radio days: hachi means both eight and bee in Japanese, and Hokkaido's ham call sign is JA8. Konami absorbed Hudson in 2012.
