Netscape Navigator was the browser that introduced most of the world to the web. Released in late 1994 by Netscape Communications, it held the large majority of the browser market by 1996, before Microsoft bundled Internet Explorer with Windows and the browser wars turned against it. Netscape opened its source in 1998, and that code became the foundation of Mozilla and, later, Firefox.
