Clippit — universally known as Clippy — is the paperclip Office Assistant introduced with Microsoft Office 97 and designed by Kevan Atteberry. He appeared in a small gray box to offer help nobody had asked for, was switched off by default in Office XP, retired entirely by 2007, and has been affectionately mocked ever since.
