Babbage's was a software retailer founded in 1980, named after Charles Babbage, and known for selling video games, computer software and gaming accessories. It played a key role in the early days of the video game industry, helping popularize titles for systems like the Atari 2600 and the Nintendo Entertainment System. In 2000 its parent merged with Funco, and the combined chain became GameStop.
