WebTV was a pioneering internet access service that put the web on an ordinary television set. A set-top box connected to the TV and gave a simple interface for browsing, email and other online activities, no computer required. Launched in 1996, it was bought by Microsoft in 1997, later rebranded MSN TV, and shut down in 2013 — an early and unusually literal attempt at internet for everyone.
